When Your Stuck In Your Garage: Common Problems With Automatic Garage Doors
If you press the button on your garage door remote and nothing happens, it's time to do some investigating. The problem can be as simple as your remote running out of battery or a loose connection on your garage door opener. If you go to the wall button to open your garage door and that doesn't work either, you may have a loss of power to the garage door opener. Sometimes the problem is a tripped circuit, while other times your garage door opener may need to be replaced. While you may have just used your garage door opener a few hours before, problems can occur at any time.
The Opener Won't Engage
If your garage door opener doesn't make a sound when you try to turn it on, the opener may need to be replaced. If there is power going to the unit and your remote is working fine, a door opener that worked an hour ago can stop working for no apparent reason. You may need garage door repair services to come and see what's wrong with the opener.
If Your Door Opens Part Way
Sometimes your garage door will only open part way and then begin to close again. This is usually a problem with the track the door rides on. You might have a loose or broken wheel, or something may be blocking the track. Take a look at both tracks to see if there is anything blocking the path. The slightest thing can cause a garage door to stop opening and close again. If you aren't able to open your door automatically, manually open the door to leave and then close the door automatically from the outside.
When the Door Won't Stay Open
If your door shuts several inches when you open it, this is an issue with your tension springs. Call for a garage door repair, because you shouldn't be touching your tension springs on your own. If you ignore this problem, eventually your springs may snap and cause your door to slam shut. Catch this problem early to avoid any potential injuries.
When you are stuck in your garage, this can be very frustrating. If you can't figure out the problem, it's time to call for garage door service. Even when you are able to get out for the day, don't ignore small issues with your garage door opener. Small problems can turn into bigger ones when you ignore them.
